Emma Gentry - Motor Vehicle Accident

On 07/30/14 at approximately 2313hrs the Vermont State Police received a report of a single vehicle accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on I-89 NB MM 86 in South Burlington.

The investigation revealed that Operator #1 was traveling north on I-89, when she collided with Stanhope. Stanhope was employed with the Whitcomb Construction Company, was working removing temporary reflective fog line markers at the time of the collision. Northern EMS who happened to be also traveling north bound on I-89 stopped to render aid. Stanhope was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. Anyone that may have seen the accident or who may have spoken with the operator or pedestrian prior to the collision is asked to contact the State Police in Williston (802)878-7111.

Update in Fatal Car vs. Pedestrian Crash

South Burlington, VT - 7/31/14 - Today, the investigation continued into the single vehicle accident that occurred on I-89 NB MM 86 in South Burlington on July 30 at approximately 11:13PM. The initial investigation revealed that Emma Gentry, age 22 of South Burlington, was traveling north on I-89, when she collided with Robert Stanhope, age 61 of Richford; an employee with the Whitcomb Construction Company. It is believed that Stanhope was removing temporary reflective fog line markers at the time of the collision.
The Vermont State Police is investigating this incident in coordination with specialized units of the Vermont State Police, the VSP Crime Scene Search Team, the VSP Crash Reconstruction Team, and officials from Vermont's Occupational Safety and Health Administration; a division of the Department of Labor. Investigators are still determining the contributing factors of this crash; and may take several weeks to complete.
Once complete, the case will be reviewed by the Chittenden County State's Attorney's Office.
