Best-Selling Author Cheryl Strayed to Appear at Vermont College of Fine Arts

Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA), a national center for graduate education in the arts, announced today that best-selling author Cheryl Strayed will be interviewed by VCFA President Thomas Christopher Greene in front of a live audience on Friday, August 15th, 2014 at 5pm. The event will take place in Alumni Hall, 4 College Street, Montpelier.

It is free and open to the public. Seating will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Further information is available by calling 802.828.8600.

Cheryl Strayed is the author of #1 New York Times bestseller WILD, the New York Times bestseller TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS, and the novel TORCH. WILD was chosen by Oprah Winfrey as her first selection for Oprah's Book Club 2.0. Jean-Marc Vallee is directing the film adaptation of WILD, starring Reese Witherspoon, with a screenplay by Nick Hornby. The film is being produced by Pacific Standard and will be distributed by Fox Searchlight in fall 2014. WILD won a Barnes & Noble Discover Award, an Indie Choice Award, an Oregon Book Award, a Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award, and a Midwest Booksellers Choice Award among others. Strayed's writing has appeared in THE BEST AMERICAN ESSAYS, the New York Times Magazine, the Washington Post Magazine, Vogue, Salon, The Missouri Review, The Sun, Tin House, The Rumpus--where she wrote the popular "Dear Sugar" advice column--and elsewhere. Strayed was the guest editor of BEST AMERICAN ESSAYS 2013 and has contributed to many anthologies. Her books have been translated into more than thirty languages around the world. She holds an MFA in fiction writing from Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and their two children.

Thomas Christopher Greene is the founding president of Vermont College of Fine Arts. Tom was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. He has worked in a staple factory; as an oyster shucker; a speechwriter and spokesperson for a presidential campaign; the director of public affairs for two colleges; and as a professor of writing and literature. In 2006, Tom founded Vermont College of Fine Arts, a top New England graduate arts college, making him the youngest college president in America at that time. The Headmaster's Wife is Tom's fourth novel. He lives in Vermont with his wife and daughter.
