"On The Town"
Stowe Theatre Guild's production of the romantic musical comedy On The Town opens Wednesday, July 16, at 8 p.m., and runs Wednesday through Saturday to Aug. 2 at Town Hall Theatre on the second floor of the Akeley Soldiers Memorial Building, 67 Main St., Stowe.Celebrating its 70th anniversary as a classic of American musical theater, On The Town is a great collaboration of the writers, Betty Comden and Adolph Green; composer, Leonard Bernstein; and choreographer, Jerome Robbins. The show tells the story of three sailors on shore leave in “New York, New York” in the wartime summer of 1944, who have only 24 hours to sing and dance through the city while trying to find true love. The musical will indelibly remind you that “The Bronx is up, but the Battery’s down” while reinforcing that the simple pleasures of life were what made wartime bearable.Tickets: $20 adults, $10 children, plus sales tax and service fees: www.stowetheatre.com, firstname.lastname@example.org; 802-253-3961 (leave a message). The box office opens at 6 p.m. on the front steps of the Akeley Soldiers Memorial Building.Photo by Adam Silverman
