Downhill racer

Stowe Reporter - 10:31 am Mon Jun 30th, 2014

Geoff Krill, executive director of Eastern Adaptive Sports - and a friend and frequent contributor to Friends of Stowe Adaptive Sports - visited Stowe Tuesday to do a reconnaissance ride for the new adaptive component of the Darn Tough Ride, Stowe's only road cycling event.

This year's ride is on Labor Day weekend, Sunday, Aug. 31. The 20-mile recon adaptive ride started in the center of town and, despite repaving work on the Mountain Road, the 1,560-foot vertical climb to the top of Smugglers Notch took just 90 minutes. Some seriously thrilling downhills followed; Krill exceeded 50 mph on his hand cycle on Harlow Hill.
