Airman saved on Camels Hump
"We just did our job," Peter V. Mason recalled as he stood amid a crowd of admirers, still in awe of the heroics that occurred 70 years ago in Waterbury.

Mason and Rolland Lafayette were honored last week at the Vermont State House, finally recognized for the work they and other Civil Air Patrol cadets from Waterbury did after one of the state's worst aviation disasters.

Mason, 86, is a retired scientist and lives in Pasadena, Calif.
