Life is easier when you have a friend. A nonprofit organization is making a comeback, intending to help support Stowe Arena. Friends of the Jackson Arena, a nonprofit auxiliary fundraising organization that supported Stowe's ice rink for years, met Jan. 16 for the first time since the death of Don Post, its president.

Stowe Arena won't turn a profit anytime soon, according to a marketing report on the town-owned skating rink issued this week by Terrie Wehse, who took on marketing for the rink in August.

The first snowfall of the season always gets my family fired up for winter sports. When winter's in full swing, we're avid downhill skiers. But on a November Sunday - with just a dusting of powder on the ground - indoor ice-skating was the perfect cold-weather activity for me and my 9-year-old son, Zac.


Stowe Arena offers ice and turf. Ice season is June through March. Turf season is April and May. There's a conference room for meetings or hold a birthday party. There's daily public and stick time. Check the website for days and times. We also offer skate sharpening.

HOURS: Varies Seasonally.
