Towns can apply for advance from state to help pay storm damage repairs

Confident that recent flooding will again earn communities throughout Vermont the dubious distinction of federal disaster designation, Gov. Peter Shumlin announced Wednesday that cities and towns can apply for advances on state funding they expect to receive later this year.

About $38.3 million is available to help with cleanup efforts, State Treasurer Beth Pearce said. Eligibility for the advance payments hinges on whether federal disasters have been declared in a given community.
