Caledonia County Added to Preliminary Damage Assessment

posted at 5:08 pm Wed Jul 17th, 2013 by (WherezIt_Staff)

Due to additional damage reports, the state of Vermont has requested a Preliminary Damage Assessment (PDA) for Caledonia County to determine eligibility for a Public Assistance disaster declaration. The PDA will look at damage from storms and flooding from late June to early July.

PDA teams from FEMA have been working in Chittenden, Orange, Orleans, Rutland, Washington, and Windsor counties since last week to determine if those areas qualify for Public Assistance disaster assistance. A Public Assistance disaster declaration would avail towns to federal reimbursement for public infrastructure repairs.

The state must show at least $1-million in damages to be considered for a Public Assistance disaster declaration. Beyond that, an individual county must show damages to roads, bridges, and other public property equaling or exceeding $3.45 per capita.

FEMA has not released initial findings.
