Senate to Vote at 5:30 on Sanders Youth Jobs Program

posted at 2:41 pm Mon Jun 24th, 2013 by (WherezIt_Staff)

The U.S. Senate votes at 5:30 this evening on an immigration reform measure that includes a youth jobs program proposed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

His amendment would set aside $1.5 billion over two years for states and local communities to help find summertime and year-round jobs for more than 400,000 16- to 24-year-olds. Vermont would receive at least $7.5 million. This evening's vote is seen as a key test of the overall immigration bill's prospects in the Senate.
