Vt. gov asks for US review of oil pipeline change

Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin has asked U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to require a detailed federal environmental review if the owner of an oil pipeline than runs through Vermont seeks to reverse its flow and move so-called tar sands crude oil from Montreal to Portland, Maine.

Deputy Natural Resources Secretary Justin Johnson tells Vermont Public Radio ( the administration is concerned that extracting and burning tar sands oil would add to climate change and the state would be hurt if a pipeline ruptured and spilled the oil.
