Scenic roads tweaks delayed

Because Stowe's Public Works Department has been busy with a new ice rink and numerous other projects, the department has yet to respond to a request from the Stowe Planning Commission for more details on scenic road projects, commission members said Monday.

Stowe is one of only a handful of towns in Vermont with special roads designated "scenic" under an obscure state program created in the 1970s.

The program was designed to preserve aesthetic features on back roads, like historic stone walls and tree overhangs.
