State Police storm response and assist to local emergency responders

Vt. State Police - 8:25 pm Sun Jun 2nd, 2013

On 06-02-13 at approximately 1500 hours a very strong thunder storm with high
winds blew through the St. Johnsbury Barracks patrol area consisting of
Caledonia County and parts of Essex County.

Troopers responded to numerous
reports of downed trees and power lines. Numerous secondary roads were blocked
and there were reports to dispatch of motorists being stranded on back roads
between downed trees and lines. State and local highway crews, fire departments,
and utility companies responded for the rescue and clean up. The Essex County
Sheriff's Department also assisted with a motor vehicle on Victory Rd. where a
tree fell on the vehicle and the two occupants were reported to be trapped. Both
occupants were reported to have minor injuries and transported to Weeks Memorial
Hospital in Lancaster, NH.
The hardest hit towns were Danville and St. Johnsbury. Troopers also responded
to Lyndon, Concord, Victory, and Waterford where they observed damage and
reported to a very busy dispatch center in Derby who in turn was reaching out to
utilities and highway crews and keeping Emergency Management updated. The Red
Cross also responded to aid where needed.
There were several reports and observations of residential structures being
damaged, but there is no information at this time if anyone was put out of their
home due to storm damage. Many areas of St. Johnsbury and Danville were without
power. Troopers noted that several miles on US RT 5 from the north end of St.
Johnsbury Village to the south end of Lyndonville Village were without power as
well as the adjacent roads leading to that stretch of US RT 5. Hundreds of trees
were observed to be down throughout the area.
