On May 22 and 23, 2013, the Surete du Quebec (Quebec's Provincial Police) and Vermont State Police, are participating in a joint exercise involving special team commanders in an effort to address the unique challenges of policing at the international border.
At the "Vermont-Quebec Workshop: Special Teams at the Border", participants will familiarize themselves with their cross-border special team counterparts; explore ways to enhance cooperation and collaboration between agencies; and to aid in eliminating the border as a barrier to successful incident management.
The "Vermont-Quebec Workshop: Special Teams at the Border" is the third special workshop designed to develop relationships and a better understanding between officers of various law enforcement agencies on both sides of the border. The first was held in December 2011 at Centre de villegiature Jouvence in Orford, Quebec that included command staff members. The second workshop was held at Jay Peak Resort in May 2012 and focused on bringing together law enforcement members from state and local agencies along the Quebec-Vermont border.
The Vermont State Police's special teams provide critical life-saving services for in the state, local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies we support.
"This week's exercise is an opportunity for our special teams, that were created to more effectively manage incidents that require specialized training or equipment, to work with their cross-border partners," said Captain Rob Evans, Assistant Field Force Commander. "The Vermont State Police look forward to increased collaboration and information sharing; coordinated field operations; and enhanced confidence in our neighboring law enforcement agencies."
The Surete du Quebec and Vermont State Police will host a press conference on Wednesday, May 22 at 3:45PM at Jay Peak Resort, at the Hotel Jay & Conference Center located 830 Jay Peak Road, Jay, Vermont 05859. At the press conference, there will be an opportunity ask questions and view the special team vehicles from both the Quebec Provincial Police and Vermont State Police.
