Vt Digger - - 8:39 am Tue Jan 22nd, 2013

Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) is encouraging its members to conserve energy on Tuesday, January 22 and Wednesday, January 23 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. when demand for electricity is expected to peak due to weather conditions which are producing prolonged colder temperatures in Vermont.

Here are a few tips for members to conserve or limit energy use:

* Turn off all unnecessary lights

* Delay use of major appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, and clothes dryers

* Lower your thermostat 3 degrees

VEC recently launched a voluntary program called "Beat the Peak" where members may enroll to receive alerts during "peak" energy events.
