CTRC Donald A. Kaiser USN Retired, 78, of Waterbury died of congestive heart failure at his home on Sunday, November 11, 2012 with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born June 21, 1934 in Burlington, the son of the late Dennis S. and Madalene (Demeritt) Kaiser.

On January 15, 1966, Donald married the former Linda Hough at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury.Donald grew up in Waterbury Center and attended elementary school in the old Seminary Building, then to Waterbury High School where he graduated in 1953. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, spending his entire career with the National Security Agency and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After seeing duty throughout the world, he retired August 30, 1974. In 1975 he was employed by Eastern Refractories (ERCO) of Montpelier and retired January 2000 due to failing health. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church of Waterbury, a member and former treasurer of the Knights of Columbus Council 2085, the Waterbury Alumni Association, a life member of VFW Post 792 of Montpelier, and the Waterbury Historical Society. He enjoyed sports, crossword puzzles, cribbage and reading. He was an avid fan of the Celtics, Red Sox, and Redskins. He could always be found at the Vermont Mountaineers games.He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda; his three sons Dennis of Burlington and his former wife Ann and daughter, Hannah of South Burlington, Jeffrey and wife Lisa and their daughters Kaitlyn and Madeline of Woodbury and Wesley of Waterbury; his mother-in-law, Cornie Hough of Waterbury; sister-in-law, Beverly Kaiser and his special friends, Ed and Andrea Hough. He was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Christine Brown, Nancy Ayers, Ruth Kaiser, and Philip Kaiser. Graveside services will be held from the Waterbury Center Cemetery with full military honors on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 1 p.m. A reception will follow the service at St. Leo's Parish Hall in Waterbury. Donald had requested that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts in his memory would be appreciated to the Waterbury Ambulance Service, PO Box 95, Waterbury Center VT 05677 as he was grateful for the many times they responded to his needs. The family would like to also thank Dr. Christine Payne of Waterbury Medical Associates as well as the staff and nurses from Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice for the excellent care he received.Assisting the family is the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Waterbury.
