The Green Mountain Club Newsletter, Nov. 08, 2012

posted at 12:14 pm Mon Nov 12th, 2012 by (WherezIt_Staff)

Thousands of people from Vermont and many states and countries hike on the Long Trail System every year.  As the manager of the Green Mountain Club’s Visitor Center, I interact with many of these hikers via email, phone, or in person at the Visitor Center. You can help me share the joys of hiking in Vermont by donating to the GMC today!

With each person who comes to us for advice, I always start by asking them what sort of hikes or experiences they are looking for. That way, I can lead them to the most suitable destinations and to the best maps and guidebooks for their particular interests. A Long Trail end-to-ender certainly has very different questions than parents with young kids who would like to do a short, two-hour hike!

We do more than simply provide hiking information, too! Whether fielding a call from someone who wants to join the club, participate in a workshop or outing, or wants to know a good beginner's hike, we have the same goal: to make sure everyone who contacts the Green Mountain Club has a nice interaction with our Visitor Center staff, a welcoming impression of the club, and a wonderful experience hiking in Vermont.

Please consider donating to the GMC today so we can continue to provide high-quality education and advice to everyone who walks through our doors - Thank you!

The next time you're passing by, stop in and say hello!

P.S. Our goal is to raise $5,000 by December 31. We still have a ways to go to stay on track and end the year successfully. With your help, we'll get there!

The GMC’s Visitor Center
staff provide indispensable information about trail conditions and hiking opportunities to thousands of people every year. Here’s a recent note of thanks from one such hiker:

"Thank you so much for the information! It helped us a lot. We got off the trail after hearing about Hurricane Sandy. We didn't get to go end-to-end, but it was still an awesome experience. Thanks again!"

Please donate to the Green Mountain Club today so that we can continue to provide these services on behalf of Vermont’s hiking trails.
