Large pile of dirt may have to move

After-the-fact permit rejected by state environmental panel
Pilgrim Partnership LLC may be required to move a large pile of dirt deposited on a lot off Demeritt Place in Waterbury, behind several houses on South Main Street, more than two years ago.

An after-the-fact permit application was denied last month by a regional commission responsible for enforcing the state's Act 250 development regulations.

After 10 months of review, the District 5 Environmental Commission decided Oct. 11 that the 1,645 cubic yards of fill placed on the Pilgrim Partnership 2-acre property "will cause or result in a detriment to public health, safety or general welfare."
