As part of its commitment to community, Union Bank is donating approximately $3,600 to food shelves in their local communities.
"The programs and efforts made by area food shelves have become even more important as economic difficulties have resulted in an increase in the number of households being served," said President David Silverman. Many pantries are seeing increases every month, and the holidays generally see increased traffic. Food shelves may be further stretched in the coming months with increasing food prices, with the drought in other parts of the country affecting affect food prices and availability for many in the region.
Basic food staples and non-perishable items are vital for when serving hungry individuals and families, allowing the food shelves to provide well-balanced, nutritious set of foods to those who do not have enough to eat. Cash donations provide a greater buying power as pantries and food shelves can often buy at wholesale prices, and can be used to fill in the gaps in donations versus client needs throughout the year. "It is incumbent on us to make an investment and a difference in our local communities," said Silverman. We are pleased that our donation will create benefits for those in need."
