Helen Mary Sullivan, 90 years old, passed away on Monday October 29, 2012, surrounded by her family and caregivers at The Manor in Morrisville, VT. Helen was a longtime resident of the West Branch Apartments in Stowe VT where she had many friends.
She had been in failing health for a period of time. Helen was born on May 25, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY to Mary (Moore) and Francis Eddington. She grew up in Queens, NY where she graduated from St. Joseph's Academy. She had one brother, Francis, who predeceased her. Before marrying Joseph Dennis Sullivan in 1946, Helen worked as a computer keypunch operator at Sperry Rand Corp in NYC. She devoted her life thereafter to her husband and three sons, Thomas Joseph, Joseph Thomas, and Gary Joseph in West Hempstead, NY. There she was active in the Women's Auxiliary of the West Hempstead Fire Department, where her husband was fire chief, and in the Rosary Guild of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She enjoyed competitive bowling and dancing in local theater productions.When her husband passed away in 1976 Helen went to work at J.C. Penny's, retiring in 1987 when she moved to Stowe to be closer to her children and grandchildren. We are forever grateful to Helen for her childcare while the family worked at their business, Sullivan Transportation, in Stowe.Helen was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe VT, and always a spiritual woman of the Catholic faith. She is survived by son Thomas of Bakersfield, VT (formerly of Moscow) and his wife Patricia, daughter-in-law Mary Ann Sullivan of Stowe, wife of deceased son Joseph, and Gary and wife Darlene of Brockport, NY.Grandchildren Shannon Sullivan, Ralph and Seth Eames, Joseph, Kimberly, Kelsey, Connor and Ryann Sullivan, and great-grandchildren Haven, Sophia and newborn Madison.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe VT on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at 11 a.m. followed by brunch in the parish hall. Helen's remains will be buried at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, NY at a later time. The Perkins and Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Waterbury is assisting the family.
