Peoples Academy Stage Theatre Presents 3Godspell2|
7pm Thurs.-Sat. November 15-17 at PA Auditorium
Morrisville Peoples Academy's award-winning drama troupe presents the popular musical "Godspell," November 15 through November 17 at 7pm in the Peoples Academy auditorium. Created by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak, the musical was revived on Broadway last year. PA1s drama students demonstrate their talented singing with "Godspell's" well-known songs, including "Day by Day," "All For the Best" and "Turn Back, O Man." Tickets will be available at the door. A donation is suggested and greatly appreciated, as proceeds will benefit the Peoples Academy Stage Theatre. Refreshments will be available during intermission.
The play is loosely based on the parables Jesus tells his disciples. Through the evening, they playfully get to know one another better, learning to treat each other with respect.
"Godspell" allows the cast to experiment with transformational acting techniques using minimal set pieces. Set in a high school, the cast of ten is on stage throughout the show. They use story-telling, directly addressing the audience, and breaking through "the fourth wall" to visually and emotionally communicate. There is an interesting casting twist in that PA has cast a female in the John the Baptist/Judas role; it has typically been portrayed as a male in professional productions.
With the exception of Jesus and John the Baptist/Judas, all of the characters use the name of the actor. Featured in PA's production of "Godspell" are: Ben Demars as Jesus; Mia Angione as John the Baptist/Judas with Megan Gitelman, Krysten Laviola, Emma Lodge, Bonnie Mullaney, Emily Mullaney, Trevor Newton, Grace Safford, DeeJ Spaulding, Andrew Tascarella, Allison Van Norden, Haleigh West, and Molly Zmich. The production is directed by Dave Gabaree, PA's Drama Director.
