Vt. State Police - 5:55 pm Fri Nov 2nd, 2012

On 11/2/12 at approximately 1033 hours Vermont State Police responded to a report of a fraud on Fischer Road in Orwell.

The resident had been contacted by an individual posing as a representative of Bank Of America who told the victim she was the winner of a promotional contest in the amount of $350,000. The individual convinced the victim to send $5000 as part of the terms of the contest, which they did. The victim was later contacted by the individual again, who told her the actual amount she had won was $4.1 million, but they would need to send more money. At this point the victim contacted a friend who told her it was a scam. Attempts by the victim to contact the individual were not successful. The Vermont State Police urge caution when sending money to unknown persons without verifying the identity of the recipient.
