Vermont Stage Company's 2012-2013 Season: Crossroads
Boom Banner

Our sound designer Martha Goode arrived yesterday in time to help with our "load-in" to the theatre for BOOM. As the set was being erected in the space and all of the lights were being hung, Martha started to do what she does best: she put on her headset and began to use the space as inspiration for the sound design for the show.  In a few weeks, you'll here from Martha directly about the way she approaches her work as a designer, but until then I thought I'd share some of the songs that we plan on using as our "pre-show" music, when the audience is filing into the theatre prior to showtime. Martha and I spent a few hours laughing about all of the ridiculous songs that remind us of the apocalypse that we thought would work for BOOM.

Here are a few we came up with below. Do you recognize any of them?

Everyday is like Sunday by Morrissey
We Will Become Silhouettes by Postal Service
Bad Moon Rising by Creedance Clearwater Revival
1999 by Prince
Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult
We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel
Final Countdown by Europe
It's the End of the World As We Know It by R.E.M.
I Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith
The End by The Doors
Until the End of the World by U2
I Think We're Alone Now by Tommy James and the Shondells (made famous in the 80s by Tiffany)
Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and The Waves

Email me any other apocalypse-inspired songs you think would be fun to include and we may just add it to Boom's playlist.

Looking forward to seeing you at the theatre... in just 1 week!

Genevra MacPhail on playing "Jo" in Boom

Genevra MacPhail, longtime local actress, chats about playing "Jo" in our upcoming production of Boom. Here's an excerpt:

If you were in Jo's situation in this play, how would you feel towards Jules?

"Angry. I'd project my survivor's guilt onto him at first, but eventually I'd probably be happy to have company and would attempt  philosophical conversations, sing-alongs, and art projects." read more
