Capital City Concerts' thirteenth season of unique world-class chamber music opens in downtown Montpelier on Saturday, October 6 with "Colors of the Wind," featuring outstanding musicians from the New York City Ballet Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in colorful and exhilarating works including sextets by Poulenc, Jana?ek, Mozart's Quintet in E flat major for piano and winds, and Mohammed Fairouz's "Two Venetian Frescoes".
In response to last year's sold-out "Massively Mozart" concert, we're presenting another orchestra concert on November 17, "Perchance to Dream" which includes Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Mendelssohn's Scherzo from A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for winds and strings performed by 26 musicians from throughout the Northeast conducted by Lou Kosma (of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra), with Arturo Delmoni (of the New York City Ballet Orchestra) as concertmaster.
Our five concert series will also include a violin recital by one of the country's top virtuoso violinists Rachel Barton-Pine on February 9, a 150th birthday celebration for Debussy on March 17, as well as the world premiere of a major new work by the extraordinary 26 year old New York - based Arab American composer Mohammed Fairouz performed by the renowned Borromeo String Quartet and flutist Karen Kevra at the April 27 grand finale concert. Fairouz will be our composer-in-residence for the season with one work performed at the October 6 and February 9 concerts. He will also make a presentation at the Vermont College of Fine Arts on February 10.
