There's no question that due to flooding, it has been tumultuous year and 2011 has the Salvation Army in Central Vermont reaching out to an old friend to help say thanks to community leaders, its supporters and volunteers.
Former Governor Jim Douglas will speak at the Barre Salvation Army Community Appreciation Breakfast on Wednesday, October 19th at 8:30am at the Barre Elks Lodge. Douglas will be joined by Major James LaBossiere, Divisional Commander Northern New England Division, Barre Corps Captains Travis and Kimberley Delong and many other community leaders and supporters of the Salvation Army's efforts in Central Vermont.
The former Governor has always been a big supporter of Salvation Army Programs. During his terms in office he visited the Barre Corp several times to support their Kids Cafe after school program and has helped the Salvation Army with it's Annual Stuff-A-Truck Food and Funds Drive at the Berlin Mall.
Barre Salvation Army Officer Captain Travis Delong says he's hoping to make the Community Appreciation Breakfast an annual event and that it's just a small way for us to say thank you to all who have stood by the Army and supported its efforts over a really busy year.
"We've had so many community leaders, business people and volunteers come forward this year to help us through some very troubling times and we wanted to thank them."
The Salvation Army will also recognize its Advisory Board at the breakfast.
The Advisory Board is charged with the responsibility of advising and assisting the Barre Salvation Army in all of its activities and consists of TJ Michaels of 107.1 Frank-fm, Mitchell Jay of Midstate Dodge Hyundai, Gary Hass of World Publications, Antonio Flores of Wal-Mart and Chris West of the Salvation Army Thrift Store.
The Community Appreciation Breakfast has been underwritten by the following Salvation Army Supporters in Central Vermont: Midstate Dodge Hyundai, LaJeuness Construction, Lamoille Valley Ford, Twin State Ford, Northfield Savings Bank, BG Automotive Maintenance and Nassau Broadcasting Radio Stations, 1071 Frank-fm, Froggy 100.9 and 1450 WSNO.
