Historic buildings get a garden makeover

Last weekend the Stowe Garden Club and University of Vermont Extension Master Gardeners joined forces to give an extreme makeover to the "Schoolhouse Common" gardens - the area surrounding the Helen Day Memorial Library and Art Center, the West Branch Schoolhouse, and the Bloody Brook Schoolhouse at the corner of School and Pond Streets.

The recent relocation and renovation of the West Branch Schoolhouse as the Stowe Historical Society's headquarters made landscaping a priority. The project began with the removal of the burning bushes, an invasive, non-native plant, which flanked the entrance to Helen Day.
