Savoy Flood Appeal ~ Update

Savoy Theater
Flood Fund

Dear Savoy Faithful,

Update:

Since Tuesday we have been working steadily to mitigate the damage and we have made good progress drying the basement out. Unfortunately, there is still a ways to go (the aroma persists) and it looks like part of the sound system is not repairable and will need replacing. The chairs downstairs look like they are also a total loss.

On the bright side, the response from the community has been incredible and the Savoy faithful have donated over $4,500 as of this evening.  We are thankful and humbled at the outpouring of support and generosity.  Thank you, friends, from the bottom of our hearts!

In my original message I neglected to thank my staff here at the Savoy who have been amazing!  Especially Christian Pruitt, who sounded the alarm early Friday AM which prevented what would have certainly been much worse damage than we ultimately incurred, and stayed until late into the afternoon the following day.  And to George Schumar who rushed to the scene and helped remove all the items we could manage to rescue.  I am in your debt and I am grateful to have such loyal friends at the Savoy.

We will continue to update you on our progress every other day or so.

Notice: Originally we thought we could have a volunteer clean-up party this coming Sunday, but we are not quite ready to begin the cleaning until the dampness is completely dried out.

Thank you again for helping us reclaim the theater BRICK BY BRICK and SEAT BY SEAT and as always the best way to support us is to come and see a movie!

Dear Savoy Faithful,

Flood:

On Friday, May 27 there was a back-flow of the storm drain system resulting in serious damage to many downtown, Montpelier businesses.  The Savoy sustained significant flood damage.  Although not as serious as some other businesses, our damage consists mostly of furniture (all our nice new chairs!), carpet, audio equipment and concession stock items all of which will need to be restored.

All in all we will need $12,000 to recover from the damage.

Support:

We are appealing to you, our loyal supporters, for financial assistance during a challenging time for the theater. Please help us return the CineClub space to its former glory as one of the most comfortable and inviting cultural spaces in Montpelier.

How to Help:

Option One: We are building a donor wall in the basement and are offering the opportunity to purchase donor bricks with your name etched into the surface to be affixed in prominent locations similar to the theater seat name-tag donor drive from many years back the idea being that the more generous the donation the more prominent the location.

Option Two: Buy a chair with your name on it!  All of the new chairs and theater seats were damaged and will need to be replaced.

Goodwill:

During the Savoy Transformation there was an incredible outpouring of goodwill and the Savoy community has been the recipient of that goodwill.  Please return the favor today and help us reclaim the theater BRICK BY BRICK and SEAT BY SEAT.

Donation Levels:

$1000 and above - Granite brick to place wherever you want and a chair with your name mounted on a brass plaque!

$500 - Granite brick with a prominent place in the wall or a chair with your name mounted on a brass plaque!

$250 - Regular brick with a prominent place in the wall.

$100 -  All other donors will be listed on a special plaque to be added to the donor wall downstairs.

Please -- join the appeal.  Help the Savoy bounce back.
