14th Green Mountain Film Festival: Freedom Riders Montpelier Vermont

City Hall Arts Center - CH2, CH25, CH32 Downstairs - D11

From May until November 1961, more than 400 black and white Americans risked their lives and endured beatings and imprisonment for simply traveling together on buses as they journeyed through the Deep South. Variety: "Stripping away the platitudes and feel-good generalizations of so many civil-rights documentaries, Stanley Nelson's film is a superb piece of film journalism . . . it recounts the often astonishing story of the titular activists with a flair for telling details and a visceral degree of suspense." Post-film event: Stephen Green of Berlin, who participated in the Freedom Rides, will discuss the film after the Friday, March 18, and Wednesday, March 23, showings. Sponsored by Vermont Humanities Council. 111 minutes.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23 3:30 PM @ Savoy Downstairs
