Household Hazardous Waste Collection Scheduled for October 2, 2010 Waterbury Vermont

posted at 2:29 pm Mon Sep 20th, 2010 by (WherezIt_Staff)

The Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection event will be held at the Harwood Union High School in Duxbury on Saturday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The collection event is for the towns of the Mad River Resource Management Alliance - Duxbury, Fayston, Moretown, Northfield, Roxbury, Waitsfield, Warren and Waterbury. So if you are an Alliance resident or small business and have household hazardous wastes like pool chemicals, solvents and degreasers, oven and drain cleaners, oil based paints and paint thinners, you can bring up to 10 gallons of these wastes and all of your pesticides at no charge for proper disposal. While you're at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection, you can visit the paint drop and swap where folks can bring good cans of paint that they don't need and you can pick these up and use them for your painting tasks. If you have any mercury related compounds like thermometers, thermostats, switches, fluorescent light bulbs, medical or scientific instruments we can take them at this collection day event. Any mercury thermostats that are brought in will be eligible to receive a coupon valued at $5.00 that can be mailed to the Thermostat Recycling Corporation. The cover must be on the thermostat to be eligible for the incentive fee. If you have a mercury thermometer, we will swap you for a digital thermometer at this event at no charge. Kinney Drug, Inc. will also accept mercury thermometers on a daily basis but you cannot swap for a digital thermometer at this store. You can bring up to six fluorescent bulbs, per visit, of any size, to either the Waterbury or Waitsfield True Value Hardware Store for recycling. There is no charge for this program. Also, we will not be taking latex paint during this disposal event because latex paint is not a hazardous waste and if you have any of this paint, you can mix it with kitty litter and solidify it and then dispose of the solids in your trash.

If you have any questions about these activities you can contact John Malter, Alliance Administrator at 244-7373.
