Sheep Dog Trials Waitsfield Vermont

Some of the top handlers in the Northeast will run their sheep dogs in the Open Class, which occurs in the afternoon. Many of these Open handlers will be hoping to earn points to qualify for the National Sheepdog Finals, which will be held in Middletown, VA, at Belle Grove Plantation, in September. The Finals are the Olympics of sheepdog trialing where you will see the best of the best dogs and handlers from across North America compete for the coveted title of National Champion.

The top 150 dogs from all across North America will compete over six days to select the best dog in North America. To get a taste of this, come watch the Open handlers from Maryland to Ontario and places in between compete at the Mad River Valley Sheepdog Trials.

The Boy Scouts will be providing lunch. There is parking near the trial field. Handicap parking is available next to the field. Bring your own chair. A tent is available to provide protection from the sun or rain. Please keep your children with you at all times. Do not approach or pet any dog without the owner's permission. Please leave your pet at home. For more information, contact Nancy Phillips at 496-7625.
