Smoothing out Granite's Rough Surface

Editor's note: This is the first in a two-part article on flat surfacing granite. This columns and others also appear at timesargus.com.

Flat surfaces have been by far predominant for finished monumental and building granite - some steeled or polished but mostly hammered.

Therefore, there was great incentive to increase the efficiency and lower the cost of flat surfacing - the most frequent and time-consuming finishing operation.
