May 7th is Last Chance To Bid On The Complete Collection

The groundbreaking exhibition, Art of Action: Shaping Vermont's Future Through Art is entering the final phase of its year-long, statewide tour and the online auction of artwork will end shortly. On Friday, May 7 at 5 PM work with bids that exceed the reserve will be awarded to the highest bidder.

This is the final opportunity to acquire artwork from the entire 105-piece collection. A number of pieces have already been sold. Selected work will then be sold at a live auction on Saturday, July 17 at Main Street Landing's Union Station in Burlington. To see the work or place a bid on or before May 7, visit

Alternatively, the work can be purchased at the exhibition venues. The Artist's Choice Tour is on display at the Brandon Town Hall through May 15. One half of The Curator's Choice Tour is on display at the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester through June 15 while the other half is at the Supreme Court Gallery in Montpelier through June 30. All of the work will recombine in at Union Station from July 1 until the live auction.

The Art of Action is a collaboration between the Vermont Arts Council, entrepreneur and philanthropist Lyman Orton, and Janice Izzi. Last fall, ten artists were commissioned to interpret the social, cultural and political issues affecting the future of Vermont. Informed by the research of the Council on the Future of Vermont, each artist chose to explore a different topic to inspire discussion and action on these issues.

The artists are Susan Abbott, Gail Boyajian, David Brewster, Annemie Curlin, Phil Godenschwager, Curtis Hale, Val Hird, Kathleen Kolb, Janet McKenzie and John Miller. The 105 pieces created for the project have been travelling the state in three concurrent exhibitions since August 2009.

In addition to inspiring dialogue and citizen action around the issues, the project and art auction have a broader aim: to expand the national market for Vermont's creative and entrepreneurial artists. Proceeds from the sale of the art will be used to seed a future round of the project.
