Senate Seeks Clean Drinking Age Debate

The Vermont Senate has voted narrowly to approve a resolution asking that the federal government drop its threat of penalties for states that want to lower their drinking age.

Supporters of the resolution say Vermont stands to lose about $20 million a year in federal transportation aid if it lowers its drinking age to 18. Supporters of the resolution ? which passed on a 14-13 vote - say they'd like to see that threat removed.
