The final show of the season is nearly upon us, and we are of course thrilled to be presenting the world premiere of a new musical by Middlebury playwright Dana Yeaton and composer Andy Mitton.
A question I've been hearing a lot, though, is "What exactly is this show about, anyway?"
So, here's the plot in a nutshell:
My Ohio tells the story of Bonnie, an evangelical kindergarten teacher living in a small town in Ohio. When she injures her neck, she goes to see Neil, a gay atheist chiropractor newly transplanted from Brooklyn.
He heals her, which she initially appreciates, but then she fears that her pain was her most direct connection with God, and she asks Neil to put her back the way she was. He naturally refuses, and so begins their struggle to understand each other, which ultimately leads to a deep connection between the two.
And yes, it's a musical comedy!
As you know, one of Vermont Stage Company's core beliefs is that what we have in common is far stronger than that which separates us. Dana has written a show that explores our cultural, political, and spiritual divisions in a smart, funny, heartfelt and ultimately uplifting piece of musical theatre - and the songs are great!
Over the next few weeks I'll be giving you updates on our progress, but for now, <a hef="http://www.vtstage.org/backstage-pass-directors-blog/post-details?blog_post_id=95">here's a few words from the playwright in an interview he recently conducted with American Theatre Magazine.
See you at the theatre!
