NRC Defends Its Oversight of Yankee

Times Argus - 12:57 pm Fri Apr 2nd, 2010

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission defended its oversight of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant before three legislative committees Thursday morning.

Darrell Roberts, the deputy director of the NRC's Division of Reactor Safety, also told Vermont lawmakers that the NRC is still assessing Entergy's proclamation last week that it has found the source of a three-month long leak of radioactive tritium.

He said the federal agency will have a report out in mid-May detailing its investigation into the tritium leaks at Vermont Yankee, a public relations disaster that has seriously threatened the company's future in the state.
