Judge Rules Montpelier Liable for Water Damage to Man's Home

A water main in Montpelier split and water flooded the basement of Benjamin Cheney's building at 183 Main Street more than a year ago, ruining his hot water tank, furnace, washer and dryer.

Cheney demanded that Montpelier pay him for the damages caused by the faulty pipe. The city pumped the water from the basement and covered the initial cleanup, court papers show, but didn't cover other damages.
