Amphibians Crossing with a Little Help From Their Friends

With spring here, the warmer nights will soon be filled with the sounds of wood frogs, spring peepers, green tree frogs and toads calling to their mates.

But first amphibians, including frogs and salamanders such as the spotted, four-toed and dusky, must cross roads and long driveways as they travel from forest and fields to their breeding pools.

Travel for nearly all of these species will happen on rainy nights when the temperature is hovering at or above the 40-degree mark.
