Hopler Wines Wine Tasting
APRIL 15TH 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

We will be tasting new releases of Hopler wines, for inclusin on our list. Josh Hopler of the Hopler Winery and Stuart Timmons of Farrell Distribution will be on hand to discuss the wines and answer any questions. The Trapp Family Lodge has served the Hopler wines as our house wine for thirty years now. The Hopler winery is located in Breitenbrunn on the western banks of Lake Neusiedl, in the Austrian province of Burgenland. Their 43 hectares of cultivated vineyards face south east between the 'Leithagebirge' hills and Lake Neusiedl. This creates a warm, humid microclimate where grapes of the highest quality flourish. In addition to the contrasting soils of chalk, gravel and sand are rich in calcium as well as in slate and contribute to the unique complexity and character of their wines. Wines mature in either stainless steel tanks or large oak vats. Some red wines and a small quantity of white wines mature in barriques made of French oak. The Pannonian climate bestows the area with the highest amount of sunshine in Central Europe and the highest average temperature in Austria. The regional climate is not only determined by its east-facing position, but also by continental influences. This mixture has a very positive effect on winemaking. In the winter, it is cold and has little snow, in the summer hot and humid - and due to the blazing sun, the evaporation of Lake Neusiedl is extremely high. 2000 hours of sunshine, high humidity and an average of 500ml of rain per year provide climatically unique conditions for the production of premium wines. The format will be casual, walk around with cheese and bread. The wines featured will be:

Pinot Blanc, "Trapp Family Label", 2008
Gruner Veltliner, 2008
Gruner Veltliner, "Guttenberg", 2006
Zweigelt, 2007
Blaufrankisch, 2004

A sign-up sheet will be available at the front desk (253-5742 or 800-826-7000) and there will be a $15.00 fee per person.
