The Green Mountain Derby Dames are excited to help host the Burlington City Arts Dance-a-thon this year!
The Dance-A-Thon is a fundraiser for Burlington City Arts and a celebration of the individuals in our community who help make our efforts possible. Teams and individuals raise money in the weeks leading up to the Da...nce-A-Thon to be sponsored to dance. The Dance-a-thon is a way to show your support for BCA and help raise funds and awareness for our children's art education programs.

GMDD 72 vs. NH Skate Free or Die 79
February 20, 2010
GMDD hosted New Hampshire's Skate Free or Die for the first time in a sell out season opener February 20th at the Champlain Valley Exposition. Music was provided by Supersounds and a packed beer garden went through more beer in one half of the game then has ever been sold at the Expo. A portion of the proceeds and 50/50 raffle benefited Women Helping Battered Women in this true Heartbreaker of a bout that ended with NH winning 79 to 72 in overtime.
The teams were well matched and from the start of the game the points inched up pretty evenly until a pull away double grand slam towards the end of the half by GMDD's Star Slayer. The teams headed to the lockers at the half with GMDD leading NH 45 to 28.
A few jams into the half GMDD had expanded their lead 52 to 32. Jammer penalties on the GMDD side and great jamming by NH brought them back slowly throughout the half until they were leading GMDD by just 2 points going into the last jam in regulation. Basher Barbie was able to get lead jammer, thanks to great blocking by the GMDD, and pulled out 3 points before calling the jam to win the game! But wait... a back blocking call after the last whistle subtracted her last point AND sent Barbie to the box as the clock read 0:00 with a score of 69 to 69.
Both jammers started in the box in this overtime "Jam off" that was certainly confusing for the crowd. In summary, at the end of the tied bout, both Jammers were in the penalty box. NHRD's jammer entered the penalty box first so she left first and GMDD's jammer left 10 seconds after. It occurred that BOTH jammers ultimately entered the pack AT THE SAME TIME. The NHRD jammer had to complete a full lap to enter the pack, while the GMDD jammer had only to exit the penalty box, skate about 10 feet and then enter the pack herself. Both jammers then commenced their first pass at the same time. Scoring begins immediately in a tie breaker Jam. Ultimately, both jammers were sent to the box again, but after the final four whistles blew, the GMDD score was recorded as 72 and the NHRD score had made it to 79 win the game. The Dames of Green Mountain are certainly looking forward to a rematch in the future!
Thank you to all of our wonderful fans for coming out to see us at our season opener! Your encouragement and support was energizing to your favorite team! WE LOVE YOU! See you at the next home bout March 13th!
GMDD B Team traveled to Ottawa to face the Riot Squad
The Green Mountain Derby Dames B Team traveled to Ottawa in February for their season opener against the Rideau Valley Riot Squad in a sold out bout. Great jams, hard hits, and fast jammers kept the game interesting right up to the end. Both teams skated hard and smart but it was Riot Squad's jammers who really tore up the track to secure a 128 to 88 final score at game's end.
Words from your Dames!
What do you like about Derby?
"No matter what is happening in my life as soon as I lace on my skates my head clears and I'm completely focused on the game and my teammates. There's just too much happening on the track to be distracted by other things."
-Xena D. Cryme #420
"All the people I've made friends with and the new people I meet all the time. Everyone involved with this sport is so fun and interesting. ..(and of course I LOVE the SKATES)!!"
-Holly Handgrenade #MK2
"My derby likes/loves are of course the extended family that I now have. I love the feeling of being in a pack and part of a team, I love the roar of the crowd and the high packed adrenaline rush that comes with every bout! The great sense of pride after a scrimmage or bout when all the items we work so hard on in practice come together!
Yeah, and I feel all this without even having the chance to get out on the track for a real bout! lol. I love my derby team, I love the fans, the game but most of all I LOVE being a Green Mountain Derby Dame!!"
-Tuffy Magilicutty #42
"Even though we all hit each other 3x a week, we all get along and have beers after!"
- Ramona Rampage #218
"Roller Derby is athletic, competitive, and empowering yet fun-loving, friendly and team oriented."
-Cajun Crusher #10
"I love having a place where I can channel all my inappropriate aggressions, appropriately. Staying out of jail is fun and healthy!"
-The Atomic Muffin #8
"Hitting. Plus, the fact that there are 30 women here and about 10,000+ women worldwide as obsessed with Derby as I am."
-Dykotomous Free #9.82
