Food (cart) Fight? New Rules and Fees Proposed for Capital

The number of food vendors selling everything from hot dogs to Thai dishes on Montpelier's sidewalks jumped from one in 2008 to five last summer.

This prompted Montpelier Alive to propose changes to the city's ordinances to control the situation.

The Montpelier City Council is being asked at tonight's meeting at 7 p.m. to consider doubling the $250 vendor license fee, regulate specific sites for vendors to set up their carts, restrict vendors from adding tables and chairs to their outdoor locations, and more.
