Analysis: Yankee Options are There, but do They Have Merit?

Senate lawmakers introduced a bill Wednesday calling for 20 more years of Vermont Yankee - legislation that the body is widely expected to vote against when it hits the floor next week.

The three-page bill focuses mostly on legal language surrounding the continued operation of the nuclear power plant, but one line makes clear the intent.

"The General Assembly determines that continued operation of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power station for 20 more years following its currently scheduled closure date of March 21, 2012, will promote the general welfare of this state," the bill reads.
