Bolton Valley Snow Report - February 18, 2010 Bolton Valley Vermont

Thursday: More Pleasant Temps and Proper Snow

The new plan is working so far: both Tuesday and Wednesday, the forecasters called for accumulating snow, and both Tuesday and Wednesday we saw nothing but faint flurries fall. So, last night we guaranteed no new snow. Result: some light snowfall overnight, that picked up a bit before dawn, and left us with at least 2" of new powder to play with. Snow showers should linger today from cloudy skies, with seasonably pleasant temps again in the upper-20s. Winds are calm out of the northwest for now, but are expected to increase to 8-18mph.

The numbers stay the same today: we plan to spin all 6 lifts, serving all but one of our 64 trails, and all 3 terrain parks. The Vista Quad opens first at 8:30am, followed by all the rest between 9 and 10am. We'll flip the lights on until 8pm this evening for night skiing, including the weekly Eastern Mountain Sports Telemark Clinic. About half of our trails have been smoothed out by our diligent groomers, leaving a primary surface of packed powder with powder accumulating on top. And for a late-winter escape, here's the Cabin Fever Elixir: 1 night in our hotel, 2 days of skiing, and dinner in our Tavern, for only $149 per person.

Nordic conditions remain very good, with high quality packed powder on groomed surfaces. We'll have about 20km skate groomed for today, with 15km of that also classic tracked. The other 80km of our terrain is ungroomed backcountry, suitable for exploration via ski or snowshoe, on surfaces of mostly powder. The wax of the day is Blue.

Even while the snow clouds were toying with us these last few days, the skiing remained quite good. But the snowy potential in our forecast has begun to deliver today. We'll stick with the plan and keep ignoring it, and maybe it'll hang around for a while.

The conditions below are our projections for Thursday, February 18th, as of 6:35am. For the latest updates on trail openings, snow surfaces, and lift status, please check our online Snow Report. And while you're over there, swing by the Photo Gallery for visual evidence of our most recent conditions.
