Vt. Senate Will Hold Vote on Future of Vermont Yankee

Times Argus - 1:20 pm Wed Feb 17th, 2010

The Vermont Senate will vote next week on the continued operation of Vermont Yankee, setting the stage for a legislative showdown over the future of the troubled nuclear power plant.

Senate President Pro Tem Peter Shumlin, D-Windham, announced Tuesday afternoon that members of his chamber will go on record before Town Meeting Day on whether the 38-year-old reactor should be operated for another 20 years.

"It is the responsibility of the General Assembly to vote on the continued operation of Vermont Yankee," Shumlin said during an afternoon press conference in the Senate chambers.
