Emotions High at Compost Hearing in Montpelier

Montpelier's health officer signed off on a voluntary agreement with Vermont Compost Company regarding control of food waste at the facility.

That news sparked an emotional exchange at the City Council meeting Wednesday night.

Fire Chief Gesualdo Schneider, who serves as the city's health officer, told the council that he believes problems linked to Karl Hammer's organic composting operation on Main Street - specifically, crows carrying food waste from the site and dropping it on neighboring properties - had been mitigated.
