Vermont sophomores David Donaldson (Toronto, Ont.) and Meg Ryley (Toronto, Ont.) both won the giant slalom at Stowe Mountain Resort.
The wins gave the Catamounts a commanding 64-point lead over second place Dartmouth on the opening day of the UVM Carnival.
A total of 10 different Catamounts had top-10 finishes to give Vermont a total of 275 points. Dartmouth posted 209 points while New Hampshire is in third place with 201 points.
Donaldson's win was the 12th of his career and his fourth in five starts this season. Ryley won her third straight race and has been on the podium in all five starts on the year.
Junior Lyndee Janowiak (Manistee, Mich.) and senior Kara Crow (Stowe, Vt.) followed up Ryley with a second and third place finish respectively in the women's GS. Junior Valerie Kechian (Tuxedo, N.Y.) added a fifth-place finish while sophomore Amanda McDonald (Bellevue, Wash.) was 10th.
Senior Erik Gilbert (Richmond, Vt.) added a second-place finish in the men's giant slalom. Junior Chris Colpitts (Squaw Valley, Calif.) took sixth place and freshman Bobby Kelley (Starksboro, Vt.) was seventh. Freshman Sean Higgins (Incline Village, Nev.) finished ninth.
The Vermont Carnival continues on Saturday with first runs of the men's slalom at 9:30 a.m. and first runs of the women's slalom will follow. Saturday's Nordic events at Trapp Family Lodge begin with the women's 5k classic at 10:30 a.m. The men's 10k classic will follow at 12:15 p.m.
