"In hard times, libraries are more important than ever."
Human beings need what books give them better than any other medium. Since ancient nights around prehistoric campfires, we have needed myth. And heroes. And moral tales. And information about the world beyond the nearest mountains or oceans. "Today, with books and movies more expensive than ever, and television entertainment in free fall to the lowest level of stupidity, free circulating books are an absolute necessity. They are quite simply another kind of food. For those without money, the road to the treasure house of the imagination begins at the public library." ~ Columnist Pete Hamill, New York Daily News Human beings need what books give them better than any other medium. COME, LEARN, AND
GET INVOLVED An Evening with Bill Schubart WHEN: Wednesday, February 17 at 7 PM
WHERE: Waterbury Senior Center, 14 Stowe Street Join us for an evening with Bill Schubart, author of The Lamoille Stories. Schubart's collection of twenty-two stories captures the Vermont of the Late 1950's and early 1960's in it's transition from an enclave of hill farms and small towns to the communities we know today. He will talk about how stories endure in communities and cultures and answer questions about how best to articulate and preserve one's own stories. He will read a few couple of passages and will be happy to sign books as well.
Vermont author Howard Frank Mosher says Schubart "knows his corner of the Green Mountains inside out and writes with honesty and grace about its people.
Each of The Lamoille Stories is a unique experience -- lovingly told, with insight, pathos, and especially humor. You'll read them again and again." Read the rest of the newsletter at http://campaign.constantcontact.com/render?v=0018GD5KmAFhowbClI4fBVh2cZuGXw...
