Police issue flood alert warning in Montpelier

Reports of ice formations and slowly rising river levels had Capital City authorities cautiously monitoring both the North Branch and the Winooski River for signs of flooding Sunday afternoon.

Capping a week that featured alternating extreme temperatures, Police Chief Anthony Facos said the city's police and fire departments were on "heightened alert." In an e-mail that circulated early Sunday afternoon, Facos urged those who live or own property in areas along the rivers to be vigilant.
