Dead broke, confined to a wheelchair, saddled with a failing mind and body - it's not the life Olympic gold medalist Bill Johnson expected.

In the summer of 1984, all this would have seemed impossible.

The brash 23-year-old had just cemented immortality by ripping his way down Bjelasnica Mountain near Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, 0.27 seconds faster than anyone else.
