Bolton Valley Snow Report - December 17, 2009 Bolton Valley Vermont

posted at 9:19 am Thu Dec 17th, 2009 by (WherezIt_Staff)

Snowy, cold, and wintry is the way every December should be.

Snow started falling lightly around lunchtime yesterday, gathered momentum mid-afternoon, and continued off-and-on through the evening. It's like these clouds are trying to prove something. Our total for this ongoing event is close to 4", with the wind affecting depths. Combine that with the $15 lift tickets we're irrationally offering all this week, and you've really got something. We'll have cold air again today, with some sun fighting through later on and winds that may add to the chill. So grab an insulating layer and enjoy $15 mid-week carving.

We'll let Ski Patrol do their morning sweep, but we expect to have at least the same 23 trails today that we enjoyed yesterday. Those trails will be served by the Vista Quad, Mid-Mountain Double, and Mitey Mite surface lift--starting with the Vista at 9am. Our snowcats farmed out about 8 of those open trails, leaving primary surfaces of packed powder and powder. If daytime skiing is too limiting, then we'll flip the lights on and let you ski or ride until 8pm tonight. The point: $15 will get you a lot of time on the snow this week. You should also be aware that early season conditions are variable, so please obey all Patrol signs and keep an eye out for obstacles. And don't forget to get your Powder Pass and save up to $16 per day this season.

Over at the Nordic Center, we should have skate grooming on about 10km this morning. The remaining 90km of our system remains ungroomed but open, with surfaces that can be described as "challenging". Nordic adventurers should be aware that ungroomed trails have variable early-season conditions, though higher elevations hold quite a bit of snow. Nordic tickets continue to be $5 all this week, and you can check out the Nordic 5-Day and 10-Day punch cards to save up to $50 this season.

These are the kind of days we were hoping for during that long warm November: snowy, cold, and wintry. The mountain looks lovely, the mid-term forecast shows no signs of a dreaded Christmas thaw, and lift tickets are $15. Enjoy the snow.

These conditions below are our projections for Thursday, December 17th as of 7:05am. For the latest updates on trail openings, snow surfaces, and lift status, please check our online Snow Report. And while you're over there, swing by the Photo Gallery for visual evidence of our most recent conditions.
