Bolton Valley - Today's Snow Report, Dec. 16, 2009 Bolton Valley Vermont

No doubt that it's winter on the mountain...

As I've come to expect, there wasn't a whisper of snow on my drive in from Burlington this morning until the bottom of the Bolton Access Road. At which point it was snowing quite determinedly. We've picked up about an inch before dawn, and snow showers or flurries are expected to continue throughout the day. That snow is bringing with it much chillier air than we had to start the week. Highs should top out in the low teens, so an extra layer wouldn't hurt. Perhaps the promise of $15 lift tickets all week long will also help take the edge of that chill.

The action starts at 9am this morning with the Vista Quad firing up first, followed by Mid-Mountain and Mitey Mite at 10am. We'll flip the lights on this evening and keep all 3 lifts spinning until 8pm--giving you 11 hours of skiing for your shrewd $15 investment. With temps dropping rapidly last night, we'll have to let ski patrol examine our conditions before giving a final trail count. If things haven't firmed up too much, we'll have roughly the same 23 trails as yesterday, with 6 of them groomed. Surfaces should be primarily machine-groomed packed powder, with some frozen granular. Also, be aware that early season conditions are variable, so please obey all Patrol signs and keep an eye out for obstacles. And don't forget to get your Powder Pass and save up to $16 per day this season.

Our Nordic terrain is offering the same 3k of skate grooming we've had all week, beneath a couple inches of new snow. The rest of our 100km system remains open as well, but ungroomed. Skiers and snowshoers should be aware that ungroomed trails have variable early-season conditions, though higher elevations hold quite a bit of snow. Nordic tickets are $5 all this week, and you can check out the Nordic 5-Day and 10-Day punch cards to $50 this season..

After the mild weather of Monday and Tuesday, we'll close out the week with a reminder that winter has arrived. But it's December in Vermont, and a day of "cold and flurries" is always more welcome than "50-degrees and raining". So grab your favorite insulating layer and enjoy getting mid-week turns in for $15.

These conditions below are our projections for Wednesday, December 16th as of 6:45am. For the latest updates on trail openings, snow surfaces, and lift status, please check our online Snow Report. And while you're over there, swing by the Photo Gallery for visual evidence of our most recent conditions.
