Amnesty program comes up short

MONTPELIER A tax amnesty program offered to people behind on their state taxes has netted much less than the $2.5 million that was expected, Vermont officials said Wednesday.

The Legislature projected that the state Tax Department would collect $2.

5 million from delinquent taxpayers during the six-week amnesty period in which penalties were waived for people paying back taxes, which ended Monday.
